Reflection Studies

Reflection Studies is a catalogue of the exhibition of the same name that took place at the One and J. + 1, Seoul, from February 28 to March 30, 2019. It includes the research note on “reflection” by designer Sanghyeok Lee and photographer Dahahm Choi. With the idea that we remember our spatial experience in a city through the atmosphere of its architectural and natural elements rather than the imagery, the two artists have started this project to construct their own “atmosphere”. Their research was presented as an exhibition where they created a spatial experience with light, shadow, color and objects reflected by mirrors. Beyond the documentation of the exhibition, Reflection Studies also functions as an extension of the show that re-enacts the two artists’ visual representation in the format of publication by its design including using mirror papers.

『리플렉션 스터디』

『리플렉션 스터디』는 2019년 2월 28일부터 3월 30일까지 원앤제이 플러스원에서 열린 동명의 전시 «리플렉션 스터디»의 도록이자 디자이너 이상혁, 포토그래퍼 최다함의 ‘반사’에 관한 연구 기록입니다. 이상혁과 최다함의 ‘리플렉션 스터디’는 도시에서의 경험이 하나의 이미지로 수렴되는 것이 아니라, 그 경험이 이루어진 공간을 구성하는 건축적∙자연적 요소가 만든 ‘분위기’로부터 환기된다는 점에서 착안한 프로젝트입니다. 이들은 공간을 경험하는 ‘분위기’를 만들기 위해 가장 일반적 반사체인 거울을 사용하고, 공간에 배치한 빛, 그림자, 색, 오브제 등이 반사를 통해 교차되고 혼합하며 구축한 ‘분위기’를 전시로 재현했습니다.  『리플렉션 스터디』는 전시 기록물로서의 기능을 넘어 거울지를 사용하는 등의 디자인으로 두 작가의 시각적 재현을 재연하는 전시의 연장선상에 있는 출판물입니다.
